To celebrate the Year of Faith, the York Catholic DSB Religious Education Department held a competition for elementary school students asking them to articulate what ‘living out their Catholic faith means to them.’ Submissions received from students were unique and inspiring and included posters, videos, songs, and poems.
Members from the board’s religious education team recently selected the winners, who were recognized at the May 21 Regular Board Meeting, at the Catholic Education Centre.
Among the outstanding winning entries was the Video “Year of Faith”, produced by Mrs. Nardi’s Grade 2/3 class at Good Shepherd CES. This entry was awarded first place for the video category.
The following poem by Maddie Farr, a Grade 8 student at Good Shepherd CES, was among those recognized and awarded by the review panel:
I know that I am a LIGHT in the World.
I can always be Myself.
I am LOVED no matter what I do.
God will always show me the WAY to go.
I will never be ALONE.
My wrong choices will be OVERLOOKED.
There will always be someone to LISTEN.
I can LIVE the LIFE I want to LIVE.
Be TRUE to Myself.
Be YOU.
