Veteran Educational Leader to take the Helm at Catholic School Board Group

Toronto—December 2, 2009—The Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association—the only organization speaking on behalf of publicly funded Catholic school boards in the province—has appointed veteran educational leader Kevin Kobus to take over the reins in May of 2010. The organization’s current Executive Director, John Stunt will be moving on to the national stage as Executive Director of the Canadian Catholic School Trustees’ Association in Ottawa.
A former Director of Education for the largest Catholic school board in Canada, the Toronto Catholic District School Board, Kobus has also served for several years as the Director of Education at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board. In addition to successfully managing school boards, Kobus was also selected to serve on a number of provincial advisory bodies and most notably served as the Assistant Deputy Minister, for the Ministry of Education’s Business and Finance division.
“There are few educational leaders in this province like Kevin who have the comprehensive knowledge of how Ontario’s education system works and how Catholic school boards make a distinctive contribution to the success of this province. Kevin is widely acknowledged in Ontario for his expertise and innovation in addressing issues and opportunities in Catholic education, labour relations, education finance and governance. With this appointment we are well positioned to continue our tradition of serving the needs of Catholic school boards and the province as a whole,” explains OCSTA president, Paula Peroni.
With more than 39 years of experience, Kobus sees this appointment as an extension of service. “I’m looking forward to working with the Association’s dynamic provincial Board of Directors and staff, all of whom are deeply committed to serving the 600,000 students in our Catholic schools,” adds Kobus.
