Ontario Catholic School Boards Welcome Trustee Website

Toronto, October 24, 2006—“The Ontario Catholic School Trustees Association is pleased to support the launch of a new interactive website for parents and others interested in school board leadership and education in this province,” said Bernard Murray, President of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA).

Developed by the education advocacy group, People for Education, with funding from the Ministry of Education, the website “” is the first one-stop online resource for voters from every board across the province. Information on the site includes trustee candidate profiles and information about the role of school trustees.

“There are 250 Catholic trustees across Ontario making decisions that support the academic, spiritual and social development of students in Catholic schools. Electing a school trustee is, therefore, an important responsibility for parents and others who support strong and vital school communities,” said Murray.

“We hope that the new “” website initiative will help to increase voter participation in the election process while at the same time making it easier for voters to make informed decisions about their local school board leadership team.”

The Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association is the provincial voice for Catholic education. Founded in 1930, OCSTA represents Catholic school boards that collectively educate more than 600,000 students in Ontario, from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.
