OCSTA is pleased to highlight the launch of the Association’s 90th Anniversary Speaker Series with the Presentation by author and historian Dr. Mark McGowan delivered on September 30 and entitled – Isolated But Not Alone: Reflections on Catholic Education and in the Context of COVID 19.
This engaging presentation reminded us that many of the challenges we face today as a Catholic school system and as a province, we have in many ways faced before when the cholera and typhoid epidemics of the early and mid 1800’s swept through what was then upper and lower Canada and closed schools everywhere.
Our Catholic religious orders and leaders especially Bishop Michael Power who Dr. McGowan described as the “architect of the multiple delivery of Catholic education” stepped in to help communities in the absence of public social safety nets and truly helped to established the incredible foundation Catholic school boards build upon today.
This is an informative, timely and inspiring presentation that we hope will be of great value to you at this signficant and challenging time in our history.
