OCSTA Responds to the Release of the 2020-21 GSNs

As we continue to review the 2020-21 Grants for Student Needs (GSNs), we welcome the overall 2.0% increase in education funding this year. OCSTA has consistently emphasized in our submissions to the government in recent months, the need for increased investments to improve mental health supports to students, reinforce the infrastructure needed for technology, respond to boards’ capital needs and address the shortfalls in special education funding. Today’s announcement is a step in that direction.

We will continue our ongoing discussions with the government to ensure that education needs are met in the current environment. Delivering education services under the restrictions and necessary precautions of this pandemic creates many challenges as we try to mitigate negative impacts on the learning experience of students. Adequate resources will be important as is the collaborative and consultative approach now being embraced by the province.

We look forward to completing our review of the GSNs and working together on effective strategies for education in Ontario.
