DCDSB supports frontline healthcare professionals and essential service providers
The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) extends heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all essential community service providers in Durham Region and around the world during this urgent call to protect families, friends and neighbours from the impact of COVID-19.
To support the efforts of healthcare professionals during this global crisis, DCDSB’s Facilities Services staff members have gathered safety essentials and protective equipment from our schools. Today these items were delivered to Lakeridge Health for use by frontline staff as they continue to serve in our local hospitals. Items provided include soap, hand sanitizer, disinfectants, gloves, masks and eye protection. In addition, DCDSB secondary schools have offered the use of their 3D printers for the development of 3D printed resources as required.
“We are grateful for the commitment of our community partners at Lakeridge Health and other essential services, and we are pleased to provide safety equipment and healthcare-related essentials,” said Tracy Barill, Director of Education. “Thank you to DCDSB’s Facilities Services staff for gathering and delivering our inventory in support of the health, safety and well-being of frontline care providers,” she said.
The Board of Trustees recognizes Lakeridge Health as a key contributor to the safety and well-being of the broader community, and is pleased to support their efforts in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for patient care.
“We salute our local medical professionals, healthcare heroes, and essential service providers for answering the call to care for the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases and surrounding circumstances. Thank you to all who continue to serve our communities,” said Janice Oldman, Chair of the Board.

St. Oscar Romero Teacher Donates N95 Masks to the Frontline Workers at Sunnybrook Hospital
Mr. Giulio De Santis is a Technological Education teacher at St. Oscar Romero CSS whose students work with various materials in his classroom that sometimes require the use of N95 masks. With COVID-19 on the upswing, there was a desperate need for these specific masks for front line workers and with schools closed, they would not be of use in an empty classroom, so he decided to act quickly and safely to get these masks to those who are in desperate need of them.
Recently Mr. De Santis donated everything he had to the frontline workers at Sunnybrook Hospital. This is one of the many uplifting examples of the TCDSB family finding ways to support their communities during these challenging times.
