Local Government Week 2025

This year, Local Government Week in Ontario will take place October 19 – 25, 2025. Following are resources to assist Catholic School Trustees in celebrating and promoting Local Government Week in Catholic school systems and communities. This province-wide promotion was established to increase youth and public awareness about the important role local government plays in our communities.
As the democratically elected representatives of the Catholic community (electors), Catholic School Trustees are not only entrusted with the good governance of Ontario’s 29 Catholic District School Boards, but as well give witness to our shared commitment to “place Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church at the centre” of students’ learning experiences. Local Government Week provides Catholic school boards with the opportunity and platform to share information with regard to the four-fold role of Catholic School Trustees as stewards, advocates, politicians and servant leaders.
Catholic Trustees are encouraged to share information about the role of Catholic Trustees and the responsibilities of Catholic school boards with Catholic school and parish communities. We have as well invited similar information be shared with your local MPP’s and Catholic organizations. The information below can be shared through in-person presentations or by providing the content in a format that can be displayed on Catholic school and board websites. To support both in-person and on-line presentations, we have as well provided you with a PowerPoint slide deck. We invite you to revise the PowerPoint or use any of the materials listed below to reflect your board’s history, profile, contact information and good news stories.
You may also wish to distribute in hard copy or electronically a brief brochure that provides a brief history of publicly funded Catholic education in Ontario. The brochure is online and can be downloaded for distribution. Please find the link below.

We pray that Local Government Week 2025 serves as an occasion to promote and celebrate the selfless service of locally elected Catholic School Trustees, and the enormous contribution publicly funded Catholic education makes to the lives of students and the fabric of our society. Please know that your faith filled leadership is appreciated and makes a significant positive difference in the lives of the approximately 580,000 students who attend Catholic schools in Ontario.
