Another Catholic Education Week has just wrapped up at Ontario’s 29 English Catholic school boards. This blog isn’t large enough to feature all the prayers and activities, celebrations and acts of service that highlighted this year’s event. Today’s post, however, offers insight into the distinctive focus and spirit that defines how Catholic school communities “Walk in the Light of Christ.”
Dufferin Peel Catholic DSB
To mark the end of Catholic Education Week, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board hosted an outdoor inter-school mass for over 2,000 secondary students from across the board on May 11. His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins celebrated the mass, which took place at St. Marcellinus Secondary School in Mississauga. [See picture featured at the top of this post.]
Bruce Grey Catholic DSB
The Bruce Grey CDSB produced a Catholic Education Week video featuring images from the board’s school communities and set against the theme song for this year’s Catholic Education Week – “Walking in the Light of Christ.” The song was performed by Dufferin-Peel CDSB teacher, Nancy Bodsworth Boss.

Ottawa Catholic School Board
The Ottawa Catholic School Board began Catholic Education Week on Sunday, May 6 with their 17th Annual Choral Celebration at St. Joseph’s Parish in downtown Ottawa. Several elementary school choirs performed selected songs with the large audience, and then joined together after their performances to form a Massed Choir. The students were so proud to showcase their talents while singing the Board’s Spiritual Theme song, “One Body in Christ”, written by the Board’s Coordinator of Religious Education. The event was truly a moving experience for all whom attended.
