Michael Consul, TCDSB Student Leadership, gets ready to help students make sandwiches for the homeless.
The Toronto Catholic District School Board, in partnership with ShareLife, once again coordinated a system-wide day of service for secondary students and staff. A Catholic Call To Serve (A A C T S) took place on October 17th.
The day was dedicated to touching the lives of those most in need and giving back to the community by participating in a variety of diverse service projects – from fall clean up of gardens to visiting seniors, to working with people with disabilities or the homeless.
A C C T S gives students and staff the opportunity to put their faith into action, give back to the community for the benefit of those in need, take part in experiential education through special service projects and develop their skills as young Catholic leaders.
Students participating in the day of service are not doing so to fulfill the community service hours required for graduation; they are serving others as an expression of their Catholic faith and to exemplify our Catholic Graduate Expectations of becoming responsible citizens who give witness to Catholic social teaching by promoting peace, justice and the sacredness of human life.
