On
December 1st, Mr. Todd Bosak’s grade six class at St. Patrick Catholic
School in Cobalt, Ontario, will be silent for 24 hours to raise money for Free
the Children.
The Northeastern CDSB
students have been busy collecting pledges to raise funds and will
begin with a vow of silence at 9 am on Thursday, December 1st, and
remain silent until the next day at 9 am. During this time the students
will be reflecting on the idea of what it means to be voiceless in our
world.
“This
unique type of fundraiser really allows the students to participate and
learn something through the process. They’ve worked hard at raising
money for those less fortunate and are now ready to be silent,”
explained Bosak.
St. Patrick Catholic School is also using this event to kick off the
December virtue of the month, the virtue of charity. The students want
the money raised to bring hope to those in need.
Students
were inspired and motivated by the work of Free the Children and
in particular their efforts to stop child slavery and to build more
schools in the developing world. Free the Children was founded by former York Catholic District School Board student, Craig Keilburger who
was the same age these grade 6 students when he founded the charity in 1995.
