From the London DCSB: Here is proof of the good things our schools are doing to help the people of Haiti. Above, children at Coram Deo Orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti are wearing T-Shirts from St. Michael Catholic School in London. The school community sent to the orphanage a supply of "St. Michaels Catholic School" t-shirts. The package of shirts was personally taken to Haiti by the parent of a boy who was adopted through the orphanage and is now attending St. Michael's Catholic School.
As a school community, St. Michael's CES decided to focus fundraising efforts on supporting this facility to address current need and to show support for the former London resident who runs the Coram Deo Orphanage, Karen Bultjen.
Coram Deo is at present supplying medical assistance, food, shelter and support for those in need. The Coram Deo residence is located in the heart of Port-au-Prince (capital city of Haiti), one of the heaviest hit areas in the country.
St. Michael Catholic School raised more than $1400 dollars for the orphanage through a program they call "Helping Hands for Haiti." Over a period of two weeks, the Student Parliament sold symbolic “hands”for a dollar each to support the relief effort. The goal was to post enough hands in the gymnasium to reach around the gym from Canada to Haiti.
Principal Sean Gregory calls it a good news story indeed and one that has shown the students how they can help.
