
“Student Success”, a three-panel piece of artwork inspired by the lives
of students at Monsignor Fraser College, has been donated to the Toronto
Catholic District School Board, and will be permanently housed at the
Catholic Education Centre. The artists are Visual Art Students at
Monsignor Fraser College’s, Norfinch Campus: Tania Augerre Martinez,
Gloria Gonzalez, Herbert Hernandez, Jessenia Jovel, Andy Lee, Melanie
Monez and Brittany Murphy.

TORONTO (January 6, 2012) – This morning following Mass at the Vatican,
the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, announced that His Grace, Thomas
Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, will be elevated to the College of
Cardinals, an international group of principal advisors to the Pontiff.
Archbishop Collins commented on his appointment:
“I am deeply honoured that the Holy Father has called me to be a member
of the College of Cardinals. I am grateful for the trust he has placed
in me, and recognize this honour as a sign of his esteem for the role of
Canada and of the Archdiocese of Toronto in the universal Church. I ask
the people of the Archdiocese, whom I am privileged to serve as bishop,
and all people in the community, to pray for me and for all who serve
Our Lord through ministry in the Church."

Neil McNeil High School’s Quest 10 program engages grade 10 students to
direct their focus to an understanding the ‘other’ in their society.
Not only are these young Catholic men challenged to be understanding of
the ‘other’, but they are also thrust into an opportunity where they can
develop empathy in their call to be witnesses of Christ.
On December 8th, 2011 these young men found themselves actively becoming
aware of issues surrounding basic human needs that many of us take for
granted on a daily basis. A group from World Vision provided an
engaging and impactful presentation surrounding the concept of access to

Across Huron and Perth Counties, the holiday season brings a call to
action that Catholic educators hope will have a significant impact on
those in need.
The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board is extending an
invitation to the surrounding community: in a campaign dubbed “Giving in
the Light of Christ”, residents from all backgrounds are welcomed to
join students and staff in supporting local organizations that serve
those less fortunate.

On
December 1st, Mr. Todd Bosak’s grade six class at St. Patrick Catholic
School in Cobalt, Ontario, will be silent for 24 hours to raise money for Free
the Children.
The Northeastern CDSB
students have been busy collecting pledges to raise funds and will
begin with a vow of silence at 9 am on Thursday, December 1st, and
remain silent until the next day at 9 am. During this time the students
will be reflecting on the idea of what it means to be voiceless in our
world.

Staff and students of three Huron-Superior Catholic DSB schools, St.
Mary's College, St. Francis and St. Mary's elementary schools,
participated in the annual Great Soup Kitchen Sleepover in Sault Ste.
Marie on Remembrance Day.
Participants had to spend twelve hours outside sleeping in cardboard
boxes. It is a reality many homeless Canadians find themselves doing on
a daily basis. The HSCDSB representatives raised over $2,600 of the
over $33,000 raised for the Soup Kitchen.

As part of recent Remembrance Day activities, schools throughout the
Northwest Catholic District School
Board focused on the appreciation of
those who have given their lives in the protection of our freedoms:

St. Patrick’s school in Atikokan hosted the Legion Honour Guard who joined the school community in their prayer service.

At St. Michael’s school in Fort Frances students remembered through song and prayer in the school gymnasium.

Niagara Catholic was pleased to welcome the Hon. Laurel Broten,
Ontario’s new Minister of Education, to Saint Paul Catholic High School
in Niagara Falls on Thursday, November 10.
Minister Broten was joined by local elected officials, Niagara Catholic
Board Chair Kathy Burtnik, Director of Education, John Crocco and
members of Senior Staff for the visit. While at Saint Paul, she and
other invited guests enjoyed a lunch prepared by students in Saint
Paul’s Specialist High Skills Major Culinary Arts Program before the
