Catholic Education Brochure:
It has been 5 years
since OCSTA produced the first “Catholic Education” brochure. The brochure celebrates the theme Keeping Faith in Mind which is a theme
that is being used more frequently to describe the distinctiveness of Catholic
education in jurisdictions across Canada
and in the U.S. The imagery presented in the brochure is
meant to underscore the Gospel values taught in our schools and to visually
show students as being engaged, caring learners and stewards of the earth.
Of
special note is the fact that this brochure includes highlights taken
from our Catholic school community in Ontario. Three students from the
Wellington Catholic District School Board -
Meaghan Morris, Nathan Gyles, and Hope Valeriote - are featured in one
of the brochure images and York CDSB graduate, Sahra Maira, offered her
perspective on Catholic education in an engaging quote that is included
at the end of the brochure.
The Association is thankful to these students, the Wellington CDSB and York CDSB for their support of this promotional project.
Distribution: Each board was
provided with 10 copies of the final brochure and a CD containing all artwork
files. Boards were encouraged to use the CD to customize the brochure to
include elements and edits like board logos and contact information.

H1N1 Guidelines
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has partnered with
the Ministry of Education to develop Guidelines
for the Prevention and Management of Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 in Elementary and
Secondary Schools. This initiative
is part of the province’s pH1N1 preparedness efforts for the 2009-10 school
year.
These guidelines were sent to all Directors of Education for
distribution within the school community. To download a copy of these
guidelines click on the following web address link:

Toonies for Tuition
Day
In 2005 the Canadian Catholic School Trustees’ Association
established an Endowment Fund to assist students with tuition costs in those
provinces where there is little or no public funding for Catholic schools.
The
CCSTA Endowment Fund has been in place for two years. In 2006 and
2007, 150 students submitted tuition requests totalling just under
$240,000. The Endowment Fund was able to provide $43,000 in support.
Fundraising
The Tuesday before Thanksgiving has been declared national Toonies for Tuition Day. Additionally, throughout the year schools,
boards, parishes and organizations designate other special days or weeks for
fund-raising specifically for this cause.
Promotional materials for this event can be downloaded from the CCSTA website (www.ccsta.ca). Money raised may be sent by cheque (made payable to the CCSTA Endowment Fund) directly to CCSTA.
“Please promote
Toonies for Tuition Day in your schools/boards Tuesday, October 6,
2009.”
